History of the S&P The Sykesville & Patapsco Railway was founded in 1993 in Sykesville, Carroll County, Maryland by railroad and model railroad enthusiasts and volunteers. The name came about in a meeting held in founding member Bruce Greenberg's office on Main Street. Different names were suggested, most ending in "Club" or "Society". What was finally adopted was "Sykesville", the location of the group and the Pullman Car display; "Patapsco" for the river bordering the Town and the valley where the Old Main Line was laid; and "Railway", denoting a railroad with only a few pieces of equipment or operating over relatively short distances. Interest Groups Our organization has multiple sizes of trains. Each member has a unique skill set and contributes to all aspects of modeling.
